Morrisons is set to become Wymondham’s newest supermarket, we can exclusively reveal. The long-awaited announcement about the identity of the store on the Semmence Yard site came in a letter inviting residents living close to the proposed development to a drop-in information session.
In the letter, the supermarket chain said: “Morrisons is delighted to announce that it is the retailer for the scheme and looks forward to redeveloping this site to bring a foodstore to Wymondham, improving food shopping choice and competition, whilst creating approximately 200 local job opportunities.”
The letter also announced that Morrisons would be holding a drop-in meeting next week to seek the views of “immediate site neighbours” where plans and details of the scheme will be available and representatives from Morrisons will be on hand to discuss the proposal and answer any questions.
The letter goes on to say that before development can commence Morrisons “propose to make some amendments to the approved scheme”, which will require the submission of additional planning applications. It says that the amendments will include “the demolition of some buildings facing Norwich Road to make way for additional car parking to the front of the proposed foodstore”.
We understand that the drop-in meeting is only intended for those living close to the proposed site and that there will be a public exhibition, following the submission of a planning application, on Friday 12 July at Central Hall between 2pm-7.30pm.
